Translational Medicine
Introduction
A key focus of the Gates Medical Research Institute is translational development: from pre-clinical development through Investigational New Drug (IND) filing, and clinical development through Proof of Concept (PoC). This focus can improve survival of product candidates across the so-called “valley of death,” bringing innovative new technologies and development approaches to our disease areas. The technical expertise and operational prowess that we bring, along with our strategic alignment with the Gates Foundation, can advance scientific discoveries that might otherwise have languished as an encouraging but never finished research project – the fate of far too many promising pharmaceutical candidates that may potentially address substantial global health concerns but were doomed by limited investment incentives.
Our approach uses quality standards fit-for purpose for investigational products in translational development, early integration of chemistry, manufacturing, and controls (CMC), and an adjustable outsourcing operating model designed to flex with our portfolio over time. Moreover, we bring a fully integrated development team to our programs, which allows seamless progression through the development process.
